Connect Slack

Connect a project to a Slack channel and Self-driving’s questions and its verdicts on failed runs arrive there, one thread each. Reply in the thread to answer a question or teach it something about your app.

A project can send what Self-driving hands back to one Slack channel. Each item that needs someone becomes a thread in the channel, and a reply in the thread reaches Testmode: it answers a question, or it is kept as a note that every later exploration, review and investigation reads.

Slack comes with every paid plan, like Self-driving.

You need the Editor role or above.

  1. Click the gear beside Self-driving in the sidebar to open Self-driving settings.

  2. Under Where it tells you, click Connect Slack.

  3. Slack asks you to sign in to your workspace and pick the channel Testmode posts to. Allow it.

  4. You come back to the settings page, which says Slack is connected and names the channel.

Each project connects to one channel. To post somewhere else, disconnect and connect again.

Everything that arrives in the Inbox as needing someone or ready to review:

  • Self-driving’s questions;
  • its verdicts on failed runs: bug, intended change, test problem, environment, and a flaky test from its third time.

What needs nobody is not posted: Self-driving’s updates about what it did, and flaky failures it set aside. An exploration’s suggestions are reviewed in the app.

Reply in an item’s thread:

  • To a question: your reply answers it and closes it, as if you had answered in the Inbox. A question that offers answers lists them numbered; reply with just the number to pick that answer.
  • To anything else: your reply is kept as a note on the item, which every later run reads.

Testmode acknowledges your reply in the thread. Replies from bots and edits to earlier messages are ignored.

In Self-driving settings, under Where it tells you, click Disconnect. Nothing more is posted, and Testmode’s access to the channel is removed. Threads already in the channel stay.
